CMMC News Release

CMMC initiator Simon Kahan to Present Plans for Developing Computational Modeling for Accelerated Development of Cultivated Meat in Maastricht

SEATTLE, Washington, Sep. 23, 2019 -- This just in: Dr. Simon Kahan, initiator of the Cultivated Meat Modeling Consortium (CMMC), a collaboration between cultivated meat startups, scientists, and stakeholders including Merck, Meatable, and the Good Food Institute, advocating for the development and use of advanced computer modeling in R&D, announced today that he will be presenting the vision and approach of the CMMC at the 5th International Scientific Conference on Cultured Meat in Maastricht on Oct. 6-8.

Dr. Kahan is to convey how computer modeling can be a powerful tool in supplementing and accelerating current R&D efforts aimed at bringing cultivated meat to the market, while minimizing wasted time, effort, and materials. He is also going to introduce the CMMC and its model for multi-sector collaboration in developing computer models and how it benefits not just cultivated meat startups, but also biotech companies supplying the industry and other stakeholders. Currently, the introduction of cellular meat products that consumers will want to buy is hindered by scientific, technical, and supply challenges- which the CMMC aims to address.

By introducing the CMMC and its approach at the 5th International Scientific Conference on Cultured Meat on Oct. 6-8 at Maastricht, the Netherlands, Dr. Kahan and the CMMC wish to communicate the vision and highlight the opportunity in using computer modeling for R&D and invite startups, scientists, and companies to participate in the CMMC.

“Imagine getting the affordable, high-quality cultivated meat products consumers demand to market years sooner than would be possible without computational modeling - that is our vision.”

About the CMMC: the Cultivated Meat Modeling Consortium is a collaborative effort between cultivated meat startups, biotechnology suppliers, scientists, and computer model builders in developing advanced computer modeling to accelerate R&D in the cultivated meat industry and making a collective impact for the mutual benefit of its industry and its members. The CMMC goes online!

After the CMMC inaugural meeting in Seattle last June, the CMMC has launched its website thecmmc.org as one if its key channels for engaging with industry stakeholders, media, and the general public. The CMMC will make announcements, share news, information, and updates on our progress through the site. Check back periodically to observe our progress!
